Public Safety

As a young black man growing up in Boston public housing I have experienced first hand gun and gang violence. We can’t turn a blind eye to the devastating impact of gun violence and gang activity that plagues our streets. It sullies young people’s relationships traumatizing them and spoils their lives. I know we want better for our youth, so It’s time for us to take a stand, to create change, and to build a safer future for all.

I will address the issue of gun violence head-on. I will enact comprehensive measures to ensure that firearms do not fall into the wrong hands. I will strengthen the background check system, implement sensible gun control policies, and inform responsible ownership practices. Many of my peers in Boston Housing have suffered irreversible tragedies due to gun violence. Community centers were closed due to gun and gang violence which is an injustice to all of the youth and family bystanders.

I will find a solution that includes investing in youth development, with community-based policing and gun violence intervention measures.

I believe by offering youth mentorship, education, and job opportunities, we can break this cycle and create a brighter future for all. Our communities are divided by gun violence and gang groups which prevent heathy mingling and relationships can grow and solidify a community.

I will organize community events for new officers, to create opportunities for positive conversation between officers and residents. By building trust and empathy between police and civilians we can forge an organic and more harmonious relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Cultural sensitivity and awareness should be at the core of their training, ensuring that officers understand the diverse backgrounds and experiences of the communities they protect. A culture of accountability and continuous learning will be fostered between police and civilian, ensuring respect for all and safety for all.
